I read this everywhere online, over and over again. On Quora, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, everywhere, all the time…so I felt compelled to blog about it!
“My small nonprofit needs money quick. Can I hire a fundraiser to just find us the money?” My friends at frontrangesource.com summed this up perfectly in this post.
A certified, ethical fundraiser will not promise the moon. If it sounds too good to be true, then it isn’t true.
If they are a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFPnet.org) or a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE.org), they must adhere to a code of ethics. They CAN help you with viable prospect research, find grants, and likely corporate/grant making funders who could be a good fit with your mission. However, you need to learn that your “lowest hanging fruit” are the relationships you already have.
Whether you are the Founder, Executive Director, or board member of a nonprofit organization, you have connections you may not be aware of. You need coaching and someone to show you that you probably already have the connections to find the funds you need.- and we can hold your hand and give you scripts or letters to make it happen through this process. It’s not as scary as you think.
True fundraisers are not unicorns who sprinkle “money dust.” We turn YOU into the unicorn who sprinkles the “money dust.” Click here to read more.
